Colby's Thoughts on the reading.

I agree a lot with Joe's Post. The reading IS boring, however, while reading it I realized I already heard a lot of it during the Lecture. This made taking the quiz a lot easier because my notes were a lot of what she lectured on (which was just like the text.) I found myself dozing during the reading, I don't know what it is, but I always fall asleep reading about history. I didn't end up reading all of the text, but passed the quiz using mostly my notes, and skimming through the books. I did take the quiz a few times, but it was much easier after going to the lecture.

I didn't have a problem reading the book about Benjamin and William Franklin. It was just the other text that wasn't as easy to follow. All in all, I do think the lecture's are very interesting and informative, but the reading isn't that great.

(and yes, i know this is already late, but i'm doing it anyways.)

The text reading IS pretty dense but it is a great reference, especially when taking the quiz. I plan to push through the reading with a vauge understanding of it and then clear up any questions during discussion. Lecture also helps with an introduction to many of the topics in the reading while discussion follows up with it...a fairly effective structure in my opinion.

I completely agree that the reading is somewhat boring but I find it to be beneficial because I seem to have difficulties keeping up as far as notes go while Weber's lecturing. So it's helpful to know that everything I may have missed during class I can find in the book.
I also foud the book about Benjamin and William Franklin to be far more interesting then the book by Henretta. There are so many things I didn't know about his life such as he didn't have a good relationship with his wife and neither did his son, and I learned about the course of his life. Before reading and the lecture I had no idea that Benjamin Franklin had aprenticed his father who was a candlemaker or that he ran a newspaper. Skemp's reading was a lot easier to follow and interesting.

I completely agree that the reading is boring. I also agree that the quiz would be much easier after the lecture or discussion. I think the lecture and reading is helpful, but the discussion is by far more helpful with putting everything together.

I have yet to get the skemp book, as I will get it soon. The discussion as everyone else has already said, helps a TON!I think the idea of reading the Skemp and Henretta book will be very beneficial toward the class.

I also found my mind wandering during the chapters of Henretta with all of it's names, dates, etc. The Skemp book was much more interesting for me.

Although the reading was very boring, I found it to be very helpful. I took the quiz before I did the reading and didn't do so great. So I decided it might be a good idea to read and then retake the quiz. After doing that I was able to pass the quiz easily. It was difficult to get through without falling asleep but it all paid off in the long run.

I also took the quiz before reading and I didn't do very well. But then I kind of just skimmed through the reading for the answers I needed while taking the quiz and I did pretty well.

After the first couple weeks of reading in Henretta and Skemp, I felt that the first quiz would be extremely difficult because of the amount of information given. There was a ton of vocabulary and misc. information. After taking the quiz I felt that the notes we took in class significantly pointed in the direction that most of the quiz was going to be about. The first discussion class was also a relief that I will have an extra 50 minutes a week that we will discuss the readings assigned and Dr. Weber's lectures.

I took the quiz before the reading, took me about 20 times to finally get a 7. So long story short, I think I will read before taking the quiz this time.

After doing the skemp reading and then taking the quiz i found the quiz to be rather difficult. There were many questions i found no to be as important as some of the main detail we went over in class, so while reading the text i did not pay as close attention. Hah i know better next time. After re-skimming the reading assignments and then retaking the quiz my test score improved greatly and am better prepared for the next quiz, hopefully. i find that the discussions on Thursday are very helpful in covering what we talked about that week and are very helpful in having the information sink in a lot better. I hope the next quiz is not as difficult and will be better prepared after our last discussion we had in class.

I also, took the quiz before reading and found it difficult. After taking the quiz what seemed like a million times, I started looking for the answers in the book and in my notes (I should have done this first). After getting a decent score on the quiz, I felt like the quiz forces you to know the information.

I tried taking the quiz without any books. i failed miserabely plenty of times until i got ahold of a book. Without reading you may take forever to test. Even paying attention to lecture will not get you buy. The reading is very helpful once i got my hands on a book

I found that the quiz was very difficult to take without reading so after reading it was a lot easier the second time. I feel that the lectures are very boring and don't do much for me.
